Microneedle array systems for long-acting drug delivery

The development of microneedles (MNs) assisted drug delivery technologies have been highly active for more than two decades. minimally invasive and self-administered MN technology bypasses many challenges associated with injectable systems, by delivering the therapeutic materials directly into dermal ocular space allowing release ingredient in a sustained or controlled manner. Different types MNs (biodegradable solid/dissolving nanoparticle loaded/coated polymeric hollow MNs) envisioned long-acting payloads, aim reducing side effects administration frequency to improve patient compliance. In this review, we covered different loaded nano/biotherapeutics wide range potential clinical applications. We also outlined future scenario such systems disease conditions achieve improved benefit. Finally, discussed lie ahead realize full sustained-release clinic.
